Lumineers vs. Veneers
Veneers
Dental veneers are coatings, typically fabricated from porcelain, that are bonded to the external surface of your teeth. They require some preparation beforehand, mainly the etching of your enamel; some must be removed so the veneers can stick nicely.
Molds are made of your smile and sent off to a dental laboratory. This information helps ensure that your veneers fit your oral dimensions properly.
Many people are eager to acquire dental veneers because they can cover several minor cosmetic issues, including broken, severely worn, and stained teeth.
Lumineers
Lumineers are a special type of dental veneer, sometimes called “no-prep veneers”. One of the biggest differences is that lumineers are not made from porcelain but from a very thin laminate. As a result, they’re more translucent, so if you’re dealing with extremely dark discolouration, this may not be the best choice for you.
However, they do offer many benefits to patients, such as:
- Your enamel doesn’t need to be scraped off.
- Once applied to your smile, our lumineers dentist near you won’t have to trim them or make any other alterations.
- They’re semi-permanent. If an issue arises and your lumineers need to be removed, very little damage will be done to your natural teeth.
- They’ll serve you well for a long time! On average, lumineers can last between 10 to 20 years!
- They’re more affordable.

Receiving Lumineers
Like porcelain veneers, at least 2 visits are required to receive your lumineers.
First, your oral cavity will be physically examined, and a series of x-rays will be taken so that our dentist can fully understand your oral health. Next up, your mouth is cleaned, and molds are made.
It takes 2 to 4 weeks for your customized lumineers to be designed. Once they’re all ready, you will come back and have them applied to your smile.
